WHITEHORSE, Yukon Territory -- A woman let her dog out and heard the low growl of a wild mountain goat that decided to take refuge in her back yard on Wednesday.

Hollins University led a consortium to make sure Tinker Mountain will remain an unblemished natural landmark in the Roanoke Valley and to anyone who drives along Interstate 81.

Mountain Echoes has become one of the area’s premier festivals and this year’s event promises to be the best yet. The fourth annual festival will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sept. 23, which is also the first day of fall.
